Here’s a quick video on Universe for those of you that aren’t as familiar with it yet: Even if you haven’t already used Universe, you are likely familiar with Red Giant’s other products (such as Magic Bullet Looks, Colorista, and Toon it) – some of which are already integrated into the Universe platform. To remove imperfections from your background, use the 'Linear Color Key' effect in After Effects, or the 'Hue & RGB Key' effect from HitFilm Ignite Express.As many of you already know, Red Giant Universe is an exceptionally powerful post-production platform that allows for a seamless integration of plugins, transitions, and effects into your NLE. Clips that don't have a perfectly black background require more advanced keying methods.

Using that preset does shift the colors of the stock footage slightly, so take caution when using it.

After Effects has a preset called 'Alpha From Lightness (Unmult)' that can be used to key a background.

To actually key out the background and create an Alpha Channel in your clip, use a plugin such as Demult (from HitFilm Ignite Express) or Unmult (from Red Giant Universe).

Use 'Screen' or 'Add' for black backgrounds, and 'Multiply' for white backgrounds.
